An Oil City, Pennsylvania man who was injured in a motorcycle accident on Thursday died on Friday. The incident occurred on Thursday, when the victim’s motorcycle was pinned under a car on Eastern Boulevard. A Hagerstown man has been charged with 21 counts in connection with the incident, including driving under the influence and fleeing the scene of an accident.
The motorcycle victim was Richard Burchfield II, 45. Burchfield died on Friday at Meritus Medical Center, where he was taken after the accident. Robert Daniel Hilliard Jr., 26, was charged in connection to the accident. He was held on Friday at the Washington County Detention Center on a $750,000 bond. The bond was actually set earlier at $500,000, but Judge Mark D. Thomas raised it during a bond review hearing on Friday in Washington County District Court. When asked about fleeing the scene of the accident, Hillard explained that he panicked. “I got scared because my kids were in the car,” Hilliard said.
Among the other charges Hilliard is facing are causing life threatening injury by motor vehicle or boat while under the influence of alcohol, failure to immediately stop a vehicle at the scene of an accident involving bodily injury, among others. Hillard is scheduled to appear in court again on Dec. 22. Tragic accidents like this happen on a daily basis.
