Salt Lake Woman Ejected From Truck in I-215 Collision

Heavy Traffic on Wet RoadsSalt Lake City, UT- Three people were injured and one woman was ejected from a truck following a serious collision on I-215 last Saturday evening around 7:15 p.m.

Reports state that the driver of a silver Honda was traveling west when they tried to avoid colliding with a van that had just pulled out in front of their vehicle. While trying to avoid that initial collision, the Honda sideswiped a large Ford pickup truck hauling a utility trailer, Utah Highway Patrol said.

The impact of the collision caused the truck to roll over, ejecting one of the three passengers, none of who were wearing their seat belts.

According to the Deseret News, one of the truck passengers, a man in his 50 was briefly pinned in the truck. The driver of the truck, a man in his 30s was also injured. They were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The passenger that was ejected was a woman in her 20s and she sustained critical injuries. Police did not state what injuries this young woman suffered.

The Honda driver was also suffered minor injuries but was not hospitalized.

Police were forced to close down the westbound lanes of I-215 for a couple of hours while they investigated.

It is unclear what type of injuries the woman who was thrown from the truck suffered, but often in accidents involving an ejection the victims suffer from broken bones, spine and back injuries, and traumatic brain injuries.

Chicago-area School Bus Accident Leaves One Person Dead Children Injured

School Bus AccidentChicago, IL- An early morning accident involving a school bus and two other vehicles in Wadsworth, a suburb of Chicago, left one adult dead and over two dozen students injured.

The accident occurred just after 8 a.m. this morning on Route 173 when the school bus carrying 35 students to the Newport Elementary collided with a Jeep Wrangler and a Jeep Cherokee.

The bus, according to the Chicago Tribune may have run a red light, violently slamming into the Jeep Wrangler, which was traveling southbound. Lake County Sherriff Mark Curran said the accident was “close to a T-bone,” adding that the Jeep Cherokee was also hit “very hard.”

The impact of the crash caused the bus to spin out of control; it then struck the Jeep Cherokee then overturned shattering the windows and tossing the children around the bus.

When emergency officials arrived the children had already exited the bus thought the back emergency door. Curran said of accident, “It’s a bad scene,” and described many of the children as “walking wounded,” the Tribune reported.

Twenty-five of the children were loaded on another bus and taken to the Connell Medical Center in Libertyville. Most of their injuries were minor and many of the students were released.

Twelve of the students were sent to local hospitals by ambulance for treatment of more serious injuries, though none of were life-threatening. One girl suffers from a skull fracture and was listed in fair condition.

“Everybody’s alive on the school bus, and obviously we want to pray for the children and hope everybody is fine,” Curran said.

Three California Motorcyclists Dead in Two Separate Collisions

Lane Splitting is a Common Practice Among MotorcyclistsLos Angeles, CA- Two separate collisions in the Los Angeles area, both involving motorcyclists at roughly the same time, resulted in three deaths and tied up roadways.

One of the accidents occurred Tuesday around 11 a.m. on the 10 Freeway in Monterey Park. The California Highway Patrol said that the two motorcyclists, a man and a woman both 20 years-old, were traveling on the same bike when they attempted to merge off the 710 Freeway onto the 10 Freeway westbound.

The driver was using the right side of the shoulder to pass a tractor-trailer when he lost control in a curve, according to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.

“The motorcycle struck a right curb and both passengers were ejected onto the freeway where a big rig trailer’s rear tires ran them over,” Sgt. Connie Guzman said.

Both of the victims were pronounced dead on the scene. Police were forced to close the 710 merging lanes while they conducted their investigation.

The truck driver didn’t stop but police believe they were not aware that they ran over the two motorcyclists. They are checking surveillance cameras to see if they can locate the driver and are asking the public for their assistance in finding the truck driver.

The second accident took place on the I-15 near Hacienda Heights. Long Island Boy Killed When Transit Bus Crashes Into Home, How Common Are Bus Accidents?

Hempstead, NY- A six year-old Long Island boy was killed Tuesday after a transit bus crashed into his bedroom, injuring his older brother.

At about 9:30, as a Nassau County Inter County Express Bus driver was trying to avoid a hitting a pedestrian on Fulton Ave. when the bus  veered of the road, slamming into the front bedroom of a Hempstead home, according to the Times Herald-Record.

Six year-old David Granados was seriously injured and rushed to a local hospital where he later died. His seven year-old brother was also injured, but they were not life-threatening.

Santos Herrera, the boys’ father told NBC4 News, “It was a lot of noise. The bus came and pushed everything into the room.

Herrera told NBC4 News that he tried to save both of his sons, but he could only reach the seven year-old; the younger boy was buried beneath rubble that came crashing down as the bus plowed into the room.

“I went outside and broke a window and picked up Josue but David, I no see,” Herrera said.

Although the driver made evasive moves, the bus still struck the pedestrian, who was taken to the hospital. He suffered from multiple fractures to his skull, ribs and clavicle.

Several bus passengers were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police did not have reason to believe the bus driver was intoxicated or distracted at the time of the accident so they will not face any charges. However, the pedestrian was believed to be jaywalking so police may issue him a citation.

Alcohol Believed to Have Played a Role in a Reno Traffic Accident

RENO, Nevada – A rollover accident in Reno resulted in a driver having to be extricated from his vehicle.

The traffic accident took place at around 4 a.m. this morning near the Moana exit on IR580, causing several lanes to be blocked. According to Nevada Highway Patrol, a 1995 Ford utility vehicle was heading southbound on IR580 and when, for reasons yet unknown, the driver steered the vehicle into the temporary attenuator to the Moana off ramp and the vehicle overturned.

The driver, 29-year-old Marcelino Fregososedano, had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken to Renown to be treated for minor injuries. Police suspect alcohol was a factor in the incident. Once Fregososedano was released from the hospital, he was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
