A mother and her 4-year old child were killed as a result of a car accident that occurred on Monday afternoon on State Highway 23 in the proximity of Myrtle Grove in Plaquemines Parish. According to wdsu.com, the mother has been identified as 25 year old Jenny Taing who had her 4 year old son with her in the car. They were making their way back home from a doctor’s appointment when their car veered off the lane, crossed the median and collided head on into an oncoming sports utility vehicle.
Improper parenting – kids not wearing seat belts
Authorities are not completely sure as to what exactly caused Taing to veer off her lane and then continue to drift away and into the south bound lane of highway 23 before being hit by an SUV travelling south. The crash is still under investigation, it is not known at this time whether alcohol or drugs played a role as a contributing factor in the crash.
The SUV was occupied by a man identified as William Weidner and his 6 year old son. Weidner was driving and the impact of the collision has caused severe trauma to his son who remains in critical condition after having sustained life threatening injuries.
Relatives and family members of Taing visited the crash site and spoke highly of Taing. They remembered her as a smart and beautiful girl who graduated with flying colors from LSU and was just about to enter become a professional kindergarten teacher. She was supposed to kick start her career at a Boothvile Elementary school.
According to investigators, both kids involved in the accident were donning their seat belts at the time of the impact but they had not been properly restrained in a child seat as the law dictates. The police have yet again reiterated the importance of restraining children in child seats.

Louisiana Capitol’s new security system has wrecked eleven cars
Metal bollards installed at the Louisiana Capitol as a security measure is proving to be more of a problem than a security solution, as reported by theneworleansadvocate.com. The system has only been in effect since April but it has already caused eleven accidents, ten of which have happened as a result of the bollards rising up after allowing a car to pass through and then ploughing right into the following tailgating car. The other one was due to a supposed system failure.

Auto accident legislation – Louisiana
Louisiana is known for stricter laws when it comes to auto accidents and related lawsuit filing regulations. In Louisiana, you only have one year from the date of the accident to file a lawsuit to receive compensation for incurred damages. If you fail to file within the specified time limit, your case will be dismissed right away.
This is why it is vital to appoint an experienced New Orleans accident attorney right away after an accident and get started with the legal proceedings (most other states allow for two to three years).
An experienced New Orleans accident lawyer will also be of a significant help especially in Louisiana as Louisiana is a fault state and the attorney will be able to prove fault with tactful debating skills and the presentation of evidence in the right light. Do not allow the full book of the law to be printed near your name, there are legal maneuvers a dedicated lawyer knows about.
