Baton Rouge driver hits a guard rail and dies in the middle of the night

Fatal accidents can happen due to a number of different reasons. However, it is always recommended to get legal help to see what options are available.

The Louisiana State Police found that a 38 year old male had died overnight after an accident on Airline Highway in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Man dies in highway accident late at night

Law enforcement at the scene believes that the incident happened right around midnight at the intersections of Airline Highway southbound and Highland Road. They believe that the victim was going southbound on the highway when he suddenly lost control of his Jaguar F-Pace, went off of the road surface, and collided with a guardrail.

Rescue workers on the scene found that the driver was wearing his safety belt, but he still sustained injuries that were serious enough to be fatal. They confirmed that he died shortly after arriving on the scene.

Police said that they took a toxicology report from the victim as part of the preliminary investigation to determine whether drunk driving was a factor in the crash. There was no information regarding whether any other vehicles were involved, or if anyone besides this one victim was injured.

What to do after a car collision?

After a car accident in Baton Rouge, there are a number of important things to consider. First, you should contact your insurance company and create a record of the incident. This is required under most policies and the accident investigation that is completed as a part of the insurance process can become an important piece of evidence later.

After these steps, a personal injury lawyer may be able to help. There are some collisions that result in severe injuries or fatalities, and those kinds of large costs are not always covered by insurance policies. A civil lawsuit that seeks a large amount of damages related to missed time from work and income, medical treatment, and property damage can potentially have a high value.

Fatal accidents and the law

When someone dies in an accident, the family does have the option of bringing a civil case on their behalf. In most cases, a spouse or minor child who was dependent on the victim will be the one to bring the lawsuit. This is a similar process to most other personal injury cases, but the costs of a funeral and burial services will be available as damages as well.
