Baton Rouge motorcyclist dies on a highway for unknown reasons

In some situations, a driver may die on the roads for unknown reasons. Depending on the results of the investigation and available evidence, it may still be possible to bring a lawsuit against the entity or person responsible.

A motorcycle accident on Interstate Highway 10 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana claimed the life of one person.

Motorcyclist dies on highway after a single vehicle accident

Police responded to the area of Interstate 10 westbound between Siegen Lane and Bluebonnet Boulevard early in the morning hours. The collision happened on a small service road nearby. Part of the service road was blocked while officers detoured traffic to Mall of Louisiana Boulevard. The roads were reopened a few hours later around 8:30 am that morning.

Law enforcement did not have any specific details about the driver or how the accident happened at the time of the news report. A full investigation will be conducted to determine why the motorcycle rider lost control and other important details.  The Louisiana State Police would be in charge of handling the investigation and related matters.

What is a personal injury lawsuit?

This is a civil case that is brought by a person who is hurt by the careless, reckless, or intentional actions of another individual or business. These are either filed as intentional torts or negligence cases. Most cases related to motor vehicle accidents, work injuries, and various other common types of injuries are negligence cases because it is less common that someone is intentionally hurt.

The element of damages

The most important element of a civil negligence case is called damages. This is a legal term used to describe the amount of money that the plaintiff will try to collect from the defendant. Damages are the sum of all losses that come from property damage, medical and hospital bills, lost wages, and future healthcare costs. In deadly accidents, funeral and burial costs also get factored into damages through a wrongful death lawsuit.

How will a personal injury lawyer help you?

Negligence cases can be confusing depending on the number of people and vehicles involved, the total losses of everyone in the accident, and applying state or local laws to the particulars of the situation. An injury attorney can meet with you for an initial consultation to obtain some basic information such as the location of the accident, who was involved, and the extent of the damage. After this, they can provide an estimate of the approximate value of the case, along with a course of action.
