Accident Caused by SnowBoston, MA- Boston and the surrounding area have been hammered with winter storm after winter storm, accumulating nearly 100 inches of snow.  While Southern states bared the brunt of winter storm Octavia, Boston is still feeling the pain of weeks of snowfall, which contributed to a number of traffic accidents in the surrounding area.
Over the weekend, after winter storm Neptune dumped another foot of snow over Boston, a chain-reaction collision on 1-95 in Waltham Sunday afternoon closed down the southbound lanes of the interstate for a number of hours. Police believe snow squalls set of the collision which involved a total of 20 cars. They are unclear how many people were injured, but their injuries were only minor, according to My Fox Boston.
According to Mass Live, there were several accidents caused by snowbanks lining roadways in the area.
In Worcester, last Friday, a car plunged 40 feet down an embankment on I-495. The victims of that accident suffered only minor injuries.
On Sunday, 6 people were injured when their van went over a guardrail on I-495 in Marlborough. The van plunged 25 feet down an overpass onto the street below. All victims suffered minor injuries, according to Mass Live.
The on Monday morning, a motorist had to be rescued from the icy waters of the Quaboag River after her vehicle went over the side of a bridge on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Palmer. When emergency crews arrived at the crash site just after 8 a.m., the driver of car was standing on top of her vehicle. Rescue personnel has to use sleds to rescue the woman. The victim and several members of the rescue team were treated at a local hospital for exposure.
