Why do head-on collisions happen?
There are several reasons why drivers drift into oncoming traffic or go the wrong way and cause head-on collisions. Fatigue, drowsy driving, and driver distraction are leading causes of these accidents because drivers tend to drift out of their lane or cross several lanes when they take their eyes off the road to look at a text or doze off.
Alcohol or drug impairment also leads to head-on collisions, especially on the highway. An impaired motorist can easily become confused and enter a highway on-ramp or off-ramp heading in the wrong direction. Intoxicated drivers are not as attentive, so they make fatal mistakes like entering a highway going in the wrong direction.

Why do head-on collisions result in fatalities?
