Driver in Yuma area tries to avoid police and crashes into home
Yuma, AZ – When a driver attempts to get away from the police, this can create a very dangerous situation. Sudden changes in speed can mean that other drivers do not have a chance to get away, and fleeing drivers often go much too fast for the road conditions and obstacles in the area. If a person is hurt by a speeding driver during a chase or any other time, they can speak with a lawyer about possibly filing a lawsuit for compensation for their injuries and losses. This is true even if a police vehicle caused the crash. The lawyer may be able to assist the person with things like recovering lost wages and paying for their medical treatment.
Local news for Yuma reported on a vehicle chase that ended with a vehicle crashing into a residence [1].
Car flees area after attempted traffic stop
The situation began with Imperial County’s Narcotics Task Force on routine patrol, then finding a vehicle on Highway 86 that was going extremely fast. After the agents tried to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle did not respond and just kept going. Several minutes later while being chased, the vehicle left the highway and went into a residential neighborhood in the area. The driver seems to have lost control around this time and went straight into a house.
A woman who lives at the residence said that she was in her kitchen making food at the time of the collision, and she is surprised that she was not killed during the incident. She claims that she initially thought an earthquake had struck the area when she saw a television in the house fall off of a stand. The police in the area told her to remain inside while they detained the suspect.
The incident happened northwest of Yuma in the Brawley, California area. The driver was eventually arrested and charged with crimes related to fleeing from the police, possession of fentanyl and heroin. There were three others inside the vehicle at the time of the crash, but no info was given regarding whether they were injured or not. The driver also had a prior criminal record that was reviewed at the time of booking.
