Baltimore, MD- A single-vehicle accident in Baltimore County left a driver dead and his passenger seriously injured. The crash occurred on I-97 early Wednesday night and left two lanes of the highway closed for hours.
Driver Killed in Baltimore Area Crash
The Capital Gazette reports that the crash occurred around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, on 1-97 South,  snarling traffic for several hours.
According to the online paper, a 21-year-old man driving man lost control of his vehicle and ran off the road, went over a guardrail and came to rest in a patch of woods beside the highway. Both men were trapped inside the vehicle and had to be freed by first responders.
Tragically, the driver succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at the hospital. The man’s 19-year-old passenger suffered severe injuries and was treated at the hospital.
The Maryland State Police told ABC News in Baltimore that the driver was speeding and driving erratically prior to the crash. Their investigation is ongoing, so they haven’t determined the final cause.
