What Happens When a Passenger is an Accident Victim?
Passengers are often victims of car accidents and need to recover compensation for their medical bills and other economic damages. As a passenger, you have two options to recover compensation depending on who was at fault for your crash:
- Pursue compensation from the driver of the car you were riding in as long as they are not a relative,
- Or, seek compensation from the driver of the vehicle responsible for hitting the car you were riding in.
To determine who is liable for your crash, you should speak with an accident lawyer in Baltimore. They will review the details of your case and identify the responsible party or parties, so you can decide how you want to resolve your personal injury or wrongful death claim.
You cannot file a claim with the at-fault driver’s insurer if they are a relative or a roommate. That is because you are already covered by their insurance policy and must negotiate a settlement. USAttorneys.com recommends you have an accident lawyer on your side during this stage or all others.
If your economic damages exceed the limits of the at-fault driver’s insurance policy, you may need to file a claim against the other driver if they were also partly to blame for your crash.
