KFMB reports that Shane Gerald McDonald, 22, was driving the wrong way on Interstate 5 when his Audi slammed head-on into a vehicle carrying five members of one family. Deputy District Attorney Cally Bright told KFMB that McDonald’s car hit the family’s vehicle at a highway speed, and there was no sign he applied the brakes.
Two people seated in the front of the vehicle were killed in the collision. Three family members in the back suffered serious injuries.

On Monday, June 6, McDonald, who is originally from Guam, pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter and causing bodily harm while intoxicated. He was sentenced to thirteen years and eight months in jail, according to KFMB. He will also have to pay costly fines and will be on probation when he is released from jail.
