Early Morning Car Crash in Flagler County, Florida Leaves 26-Year-Old Dead
A 26-year-old woman from Ormond Beach was pronounced dead at the scene of a two-car crash that occurred on I-95, just south of the State Road 100 interchange on August 28th[Source: Flagler Live]. Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) says the young woman was driving in the center lane in her Chevrolet Trax when she struck a Lexus SUV from behind. Dispatchers say the woman’s car rolled several times and flipped over the Lexus. While the driver of the Lexus managed to stop his vehicle on the side of I-95, the Chevrolet struck a center guardrail and eventually came to a stop on the left shoulder.
Sadly, the woman was ejected from the vehicle and both her left arm and right leg were severed.
Before officials arrived at the scene, a resident in a nearby neighborhood called 911 and reported that they had heard tires screeching. Officials then called in an emergency helicopter but later canceled the request after they reached the scene only to find the young woman deceased. The source says the driver behind the Lexus, a 38-year-old Ocala man, was uninjured. FHP has not released the names of those involved in the two-vehicle crash as part of Marsy’s Law, according to the source.
In July, an FHP spokesperson told the news source that the agency was “no longer proactively [releasing] the identities of the parties involved from our scenes in press releases.” Although Marsy’s Law aims to recognize and protect the rights of crime victims, the source says that many law enforcement agencies are now applying the law in different ways.
When a loved one is injured or killed in a car crash in Florida, their surviving family members are often left with these questions:
- Who was responsible for causing the accident?
- Is my loved one entitled to compensation for the injuries they suffered?
- Is legal action warranted (i.e. a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit)?
- Will the insurance company cover their medical bills, pain and suffering, etc.?
- What happens if the insurance company doesn’t want to pay?
- Who is liable for covering funeral costs?
