Louisville, KY- A Kentucky family is suing a local sports anchor, WHAS-TV and a tow truck driver for their involvement in a January pedestrian accident that left one woman dead.
The lawsuit, filed by the family of Fontaine Jeffery, accuses Matthew Good, the tow truck driver, and Jeff Woods, sports anchor at WHAS, of striking her as she crossed the intersection of Second Street and Jefferson Street.
Jeffery was leaving her place of employment and was headed home when she fell in the crosswalk. After being struck she was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead of blunt force trauma.
WDRB reports that the accident occurred on January 23rd, when Jeffery fell down in the crosswalk of the intersection. She was first struck by the Good’s tow truck who was described as being “out of control” according to the news station.
Then, the lawsuit alleges, Woods struck her again in a WHAS news van, dragging her body several feet before stopping. According to the allegations, Woods stopped the van, saw the victim and drove away without offering aide, according to WDRB.
The suit described Wood’s actions as “unconscionable, outrageous” and “violated human decency,” according to the television station. He has been charged with fleeing the scene of an accident and has not appeared on air since the accident occurred.
Good, however, has not been charged since he stayed on the scene, though police said he was not paying attention when he struck Jeffery.
Jeffery’s family is seeking an unspecified amount of compensatory and punitive damages.
