San Diego, CA- A man and his 7-month-old child suffered critical injuries after they were struck by a car and they crossed and street in a busy area of San Diego earlier this month.
NBC San Diego reports that on March 2nd, around 6:30 a.m. an un-identified man was pushing his 7-month-old son in a stroller when he attempted to cross the street at the intersection of Catalina Boulevard and Cannon. As the man and his son were in the crosswalk, a right-turning SUV slammed into them, hitting both the father and the stroller.
Police said the driver of the SUV, a 47-year-old stopped to give aide to the injured. There is no word whether the driver was charged for the accident.
Alcohol has been ruled out a factor in the crash.
Residents in the area told NBC San Diego that they avoid this using the crosswalk at this intersection because it is difficult for motorists to see if anyone is in the crosswalk until they have already rounded the corner. The news station found that there have been dozens of similar accidents at this intersection, leaving nearly 96 people injured.
Both the father and his child suffered head injuries which were considered life-threatening, and broken bones.
