St. Petersburg, FL- Police suspect a Florida woman was drunk when she caused a fatal accident that left a 2 year-old boy dead and injured several passengers.
The accident occurred Saturday in Manatee County on I-75. The Herald-Tribune reports that 24 year-old Shameka Jones of Winter Haven was driving several passengers, including children, in her SUV when she struck a curb, causing her vehicle to go airborne. The SUV then left the roadway and overturned several times, striking several trees along the way.
Two year-old boy, Issah Solomon suffered major injuries and was later pronounced dead at the scene. A 6 month-old boy was also seriously injured, but is being treated at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg.
Seven children, ranging in age from 6 months-old to 10 years-old, suffered minor injuries. Troopers noted that none of the children were wearing safety belts, according to the Herald-Tribune.
Jones suffered minor injuries and two of her adult passengers were seriously injured.
Police charged Jones with DUI manslaughter and other charges.
