Personal Injury ClaimCamden County, NJ- A Camden County man was killed Monday in a freak accident at a Jersey City construction site after he was struck in the head by a falling tape measure.
Gary Anderson a 58 year-old resident was delivering drywall to the construction site Monday just after 9 a.m. According to NJ.com, Anderson was standing outside a vehicle, speaking to a friend through their window when the tape measure, weighing only 1 lb., fell striking him in the head.
According to multiple reports, the tape measure which came off of a worker’s belt fell 50 stories, struck some equipment and then hit Anderson.
Anderson was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Anderson was working as an independent contractor for a New York-based trucking company, NJ.com reported, which described the deceased man as a “stellar contractor,” but had no further comments about the accident.
NJ.com reported that Anderson was not wearing a hardhat at the time of the accident, though he had one in his truck. This appears to be just an unlucky accident.
Occupational and Safety Hazards were dispatched to the scene and are currently investigating. The agency suggests on their website that anyone entering a construction zone should wear a hardhat.
