Head-On Crash in San Luis Obispo Injures Six
Six people were injured Monday night in San Luis Obispo when two cars were involved in a hit and run accident. KSBY reports that the collision between a Lexus and Mini Cooper occurred on Foothill Blvd. around 11:00 p.m.
Authorities told the TV station they believe the Mini Cooper was making a U-Turn when it collided with the Lexus. The driver of the Lexus may have been speeding when the crash occurred.
Police don’t think alcohol is involved.
The victims suffered a range of injuries from moderate to severe, according to the TV station. Both cars were totaled.
Hit-and-Run Crashes Are Often Deadly
Though they were injured, the victims of this crash were fortunate they weren’t killed considering that head-on collisions are among the deadliest types of accidents for motorists. Head-on collisions are 27 times more likely to be fatal according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. There are several reasons why head-on crashes can be lethal. For one, the impact occurs at the front of the car where the engine is and other car parts that can crush a passenger.
Another reason head-on crashes tend to be fatal is that they usually occur at high speeds, which police suspect was a factor in the San Luis Obispo crash. When two vehicles are traveling at a high speed, drivers are unable to make evasive maneuvers fast enough to avoid crashing or minimizing the impact. Along with speed comes force, and the greater the power of a collision, the worse a victim’s injuries will be.
Other causes of head-on crashes include:
Drivers who engage in any of the negligent actions discussed above should be held accountable for their actions. Victims can do this by hiring an attorney to file a personal injury claim and allowing them to take the reigns of your case.
