Springfield, IL (5-11-15)-Winter may be over, but there are other adverse weather conditions, such as heavy rain that can lead to a serious accident. In fact, AAA estimates that rain contributes to approximately 1.2 million auto collisions each year and sometimes those collisions can be fatal. Such is the case of a recent Illinois collision that left two people dead.
KSDK-TV reports that on Friday, just after 1 p.m. when heavy rains began to fall in central Illinois, a pickup truck ran off the road, killing both passengers. After sliding off the road, the truck, driven by 71-year-old Anthony Biondo, then rolled over, landing on its side.
Biondo was pronounced dead on the scene. His passenger 53-year-old Roseanne Dennis was rushed to the hospital, but later died.
The Belleview News Democrat reports that both victims died of blunt force trauma.
Police suspect Biondo lost control because his vehicle hydroplaned in the short, heavy burst of rain which reportedly caused two other accidents in the region, according the News Democrat. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in these crashes.
