Monterey, CA- Police have arrested a driver in connection with a Thursday morning accident that proved fatal for a Bay Traffic Solutions worker.
Police say Adam Zubiate was traveling nearly 90 miles an hour on Highway 68 just after midnight when came across a work zone. Only one lane of the roadway was open so highway workers were using a pilot car to control traffic.
Zubiate, who was driving a 1999 Mercedes sped around the pilot car and struck 51-year-old Jesus Fernandez, of Tracy, California, as he was helping direct traffic. According to KSBW, Zubiate continued to drive for a half a mile before he stopped.
Fernandez was pronounced dead on the scene.
Police said suspect Zubiate was on a stimulant such as cocaine and methamphetamines when he struck Fernandez. He was booked into the Monterey County Jail on suspicion of DUI.
Police are still conducting their investigation.
