On Tuesday morning, around 7 a.m., a school bus with 4 students on board, was traveling on Loop 610 in Southeast Houston when it was struck by another car. The impact sent the bus through a guardrail and crashing onto the ground below. The bus landed on its roof, demolishing the bus.
Two students a Janiecia Chatman, 14, and Mariya Johnson, a 17, suffered fatal injuries. The bus driver and two other students on the bus suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries, according to KHOU.

An attorney representing the Johnsons said that they could name several parties in their suit including the Houston Independent School District, the bus driver, the driver of the Buick Regal and possibly the company that manufactured the guardrail. Mrs. Johnson said she believes the accident and her daughter’s death was “preventable.”
The Houston Chronicle reports that the bus was outfitted with seatbelts.
