Houston, TX- On the road, motorcyclists are at a disadvantage. Motorcycle riders are 27 times more likely to suffer life-threatening injuries than vehicle occupants, and they account for 14 percent of all traffic fatalities in the U.S., according to the National Traffic Highway Safety Administration. A crash that occurred in late September highlights the dangers facing motorcyclists in Houston.
Motorcyclist Killed in Houston Hit-and-Run
A 28-year-old motorcyclist was traveling on I-45 when he rear-ended a Volvo SUV. The Houston Chronicle reports that driver of the SUV came to a sudden stop. The motorcycle rider was unable to stop and plowed into the rear-end of the SUV. The twisted wreckage of the bike with the rider in tow skidded for what the sheriff’s office describes as a “some distance.”
Police said the SUV driver, a slender man in his 20s, stopped and got out of his car and surveyed the scene then took off. He has still not been located.
The man riding the motorcycle was rushed to the hospital, but he died of his injuries.

Motorists Pose the Biggest Danger for Motorcyclists
There are many dangers on the road, but for a biker, the biggest danger is drivers of cars, SUVs and commercial trucks. Motorists cause the majority of motorcycle accidents because they tend to be blind to bikes. Sudden braking and turning into the path of a bike are two of the more common causes of motorcycle crashes.
Motorists aren’t the only ones on the road putting bikers at risk; they put themselves at risk too. One of the biggest killers of motorcyclists is drunken driving on behalf of riders. According to the NHTSA, 43 percent of fatal motorcycle accidents are caused by drunk drivers.
Another killer is a refusal to wear a helmet law. Under Texas law, motorcycle riders are allowed to ride helmet-free as long as they complete a motorcycle safety training course and carry the correct insurance amount.
Why Do I Need an Accident Attorney After My Houston Accident?
Whether you are in a car crash or a motorcycle wreck, you will benefit from having an accident attorney on your side.
Victims of motorcycle accidents often suffer the following injuries:
Broken bones including arms, legs, and ribs
Abrasions over a large area, also known road rash
Neck or spinal injuries
Traumatic head trauma

Those injuries can add up to sky-high medical bills for riders. They shouldn’t have to cover those costs out of their own pockets. Filing a personal injury claim against the at-fault party or parties will ensure the responsible party pays for their careless actions.
Accident victims often encounter barriers when trying to recover compensation for their accident. Maybe they can’t locate the at-fault driver, as with the aforementioned accident, and the victim must negotiate with their insurer to recover compensation. Or, some of the blame is being placed on the victim. Whatever challenge you may encounter, an accident lawyer in Houston can help you overcome them. USAttorneys.com can connect you with one of our well-informed and tenacious legal team in Texas today.
