a1Normal, IL- A 21 year-old man was arrested Monday for drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident which left an Illinois State University student in critical condition.
On Saturday morning, around 8:45 a.m., police found an unresponsive young man near College Avenue and Fell Street in Normal. A patrol officer arrived shortly after motorists had begun to slow for a body in the road, according to the Bloomington Pantagraph.
The victim,20 year-old Benjamin Allison, was taken to the hospital and was on life-support. He remains in critical condition. A Facebook set up in his honor, Ben Allison’s Legacy, states that he will be taken off life support and his organs will be donated.
Allison was a communications major at Illinois State University and worked for the college radio station. He was also on the university hockey team.
Police began their search for the hit-and-run driver and, with the help of eyewitnesses, located him Saturday afternoon. Joshua Dunn, 21, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of the accident.
According to the Bloomington Pantagraph, Dunn was returning home from a party Saturday morning when he struck Allison and fled the scene. When police tracked Dunn down they noticed the windshield of his car was badly damaged, which he could not explain.  He did admit to drinking the night before the accident and police said he appeared drunk Saturday when they first came in contact with him.
