Drinking and DrivingBroward County, FL-As hit-and-run accidents in South Florida are on the rise, police in Broward County are looking for a driver who fatally struck a man who was a victim in a previous accident.
A single vehicle accident just after 3:30 a.m. Thursday morning ended in fatal hit-and-run accident. WSVN TV reports that a 31-year-old man lost control of his vehicle on Pine Island Road and struck a light pole, ejecting his passenger.
The ejected passenger, a 37-year-old woman, was pronounced dead on the scene.
After the driver emerged from the wreckage of his vehicle, which was in the middle of the road, a witness said he was struck by a passing vehicle, WSVN reports. That vehicle, a white two-door, fled the scene and police are now looking for the driver.
The driver in the first crash died as he was being transported to the hospital.
Police told the TV-station that this accident can serve as reminder to accident victims that they need to get out of the road if they have been involved in an accident.
This unfortunate accident ended up being one of the many hit-and-run accidents that have occurred in South Florida over recent months. CBS Miami reports that in 2014 there were over 80,000 hit-and-run accidents in the state of Florida 9,749 of which occurred in Broward County. And in Miami-Dade County, there were over 17,000.
A majority of those hit-and-run crashes, 3 out of 5, involved pedestrians according to CBS.
