Baton Rouge, LA- Far too many crashes end in death because motorists refuse to buckle up or parents don’t properly restrain your child. Using a car seat belt and car seats is the simplest thing you can do to prevent a deadly crash, and yet many don’t and the results can be heartbreaking.

Always Wear Your Seat Belt
When states began to implement seat belt laws, there was a great deal of criticism of the laws, but in the decades since a great deal of science has emerged which shows that seat belts and child seats save lives and yet only 84 percent of drivers in Louisiana use their seat belts according to the NHTSA.
Wearing a seat belt reduces the chances of being fatally injured in half according to the Centers for Disease Control. There are many accidents, including the one above, that could have different and less tragic consequences if motorists and passengers buckle up and parents use an appropriate car seat.
How Being Unrestrained During a Crash Can Affect Your Claim
Not wearing a seatbelt or failing to restrain a child has legal consequences as well. It is possible for an insurance company to seek a reduction in your accident settlement amount because you neglected to use your seatbelt. They can argue that your failure to buckle up caused your injuries to be worse and they shouldn’t have to cover all your medical expenses fully.
