Kansas City, MO- A Kansas City man was arrested this week for his involvement in a hit-and-run accident that left a bicyclist in critical condition last fall.
Kansas City police charge 38-year-old Kevin Hall with DUI, aggravated battery and leaving the scene of an accident, the Kansas City Star reports.
According to reports, Hall was traveling westbound on Shawnee Mission Parkway last September when he struck a bicyclist traveling in the same direction. Witnesses told police that after Hall had hit McCrary, he continued driving westbound on Shawnee Mission Parkway until police stopped him. They were able to determine Hall was responsible for the crash based on the damage his truck sustained.
After being struck, McCrary was taken to the hospital in critical condition, the Kansas City Star reports.
There is a host of reasons why motorists flee the scene of accidents. As is the case with this accident, many at-fault drivers hit and run because they are intoxicated and fear being charged with a DUI. Being uninsured, driving on a suspended license or simple fear compel motorists to leave the scene of a serious accident. Regardless of why a driver flees, leaving the scene of an accident can have serious repercussions, often resulting in criminal charges and costlier civil settlements.
If you have been involved in a hit-and-run accident, USAttorneys recommends you speak with an accident lawyer in Kansas City, Missouri to help you recover the compensation you deserve. Whether the driver responsible for your accident is identified or not, there are a number of advantages to having a lawyer who specializes in personal injury claims working on your case.
It is a mistake to assume that your insurer is going to give you the settlement amount you deserve. The fact is, most accident victims have to fight long and hard to get a fair settlement from an insurer. While insurance companies are required to provide uninsured motorist protection, it is not uncommon for an accident victim’s total accident costs to exceed the limits of their policy. That is why you need an attorney who understands how to negotiate with insurers working on your case in the hopes of securing a larger settlement than you have been offered either from your insurance company or the hit-and-run driver’s insurer if they are identified. If you have to negotiate with an insurer, you need an insurance claims specialist working on your behalf.
