It was March 31stwhen Sean Powell got into a Lyft ride-sharing vehicle in Milwaukee headed home and little did he know, this is how he would spend the last moments of his life.
It was early Saturday morning around 2:30 a.m. when Powell had been picked up by a Lyft driver. As the two were driving down the roadway in Milwaukee, a Chevy Malibu struck the Toyota Powell was traveling in near 35thand Hopkins Street. When officials arrived on the scene, the driver of the Malibu who was identified as 37-year-old Curtis Williams was pronounced dead and Powell was transported to a local hospital. Sadly, he too was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. The driver operating the Lyft vehicle was said to have suffered from injuries and was hospitalized.
Just hours after the accident, family and friends gathered on Hopkins Street where a vigil was held for Powell. Many were seen holding blue balloons and wiping away their tears. Powell was set to be married to his fiancé and the two had just welcomed a baby boy into the world four months prior to the accident. Powell’s brother spoke out on the incident saying, “they took a very good man from all of us out here.” Instead of spending Easter celebrating with family and friends, he would be burying his brother.
A longtime friend of Powell’s also spoke out and couldn’t believe he was gone. Although losing someone can stir up feelings of anger and sadness, “Powell’s loved ones tried to focus on the positive memories,” according to Fox 6 Now. March 31stwas just a day that one man lost his life, rather it was a day that a woman lost her fiancé and a son lost his father. It was a day that friends and family lost someone they cared for a loved so much.
The fact is, a car accident can occur at any given moment, but most are caused by individuals who were engaging in some type of reckless behavior. Sadly, many drivers who choose to engage in unlawful and careless behavior fail to take into account how their actions might affect others. While we don’t know exactly what led the 37-year-old to crash into the Toyota, we see the devastating effects an auto accident can have on one person along with their family and friends.
Did you recently lose a friend or family member to an auto accident in Wisconsin?
Although you cannot bring back a person who lost their life in a tragic accident, you can seek justice for their death, especially if it was caused by someone who was negligent. You will need to hire a Milwaukee, Wisconsin accident lawyer who can guide you on what needs to be done and potentially represent you if you choose to take your case to court. While some family members are able to settle with the at-fault party outside of court for causing the fatal accident, other times, it is in your best interest to take your case beyond the negotiation phase and in front of a judge. But, that is something you would want to discuss with an accident lawyer first.
