Contra Costa, CA- Pedestrians, when crossing the road, must trust that motorist is going to notice them and yield the right of way, but that doesn’t always happen. The Contra Costa Times reports that the accident occurred on Sept. 3 just after 7:30 a.m. as a mother and her three children were crossing at the intersection of Second Avenue South and Shadowood Drive.
Two girls, ages 3 and 5, were airlifted to a local hospital for treatment but their injuries were not life-threatening. The mother and an infant, who was in a stroller, suffered only minor injuries.
The driver told police he was only going about 15 mph when he struck the family and he was trying to run on his windshield wipers when the accident occurred, according to the Times. The driver stayed on the scene and cooperated with police.
This accident shows us that even a brief moment of taking your eyes off the road can lead to a potentially devastating crash.
