On Sunday, Nov. 2nd, a woman driving 252nd Street in Seward County just after 5 a.m. lost control of her vehicle and slammed head-on into an oncoming car. Kimberly Hawthorne, 45, of Lincoln, crossed the center line into the path of another vehicle
Hawthorne was killed upon impact and the driver of the pickup truck, Antoinette Hruby, 23, suffered critical injuries and was flow to a local hospital, according to the Lincoln Journal Star.
Police said speed played role in the accident and are still trying to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved.
Later Sunday afternoon in Douglas County, a 27 year-old man was killed in a single-car accident, after he lost control in a curve, sending his vehicle across a the center median and another road. His vehicle then rolled over several times causing him to suffer fatal injuries. His passenger suffered serious injuries and was flown to a local hospital.
Then on Sunday evening one person was killed four people were hospitalized after the driver of a car hit a semi-tractor trailer near Grand Island on Interstate 80. According to the Lincoln Journal Star, the driver of a car lost control after a tire blew out , causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle crossed the center median and struck the semi-truck.
One front seat passenger was killed and four other occupants suffered serious injury. The truck driver was not injured.
According to the Journal-Star, there have been 192 fatal accidents in Nebraska so far in 2014.
