That’s what happened in the early morning hours of last Thursday when a man from Denver, North Carolina crashed into dock, killing himself and injuring two others.
Police say that 45-year-old Walter Laudenslager and two passengers slammed into a dock around 2:15 a.m. April 30th. Laudenslager was ejected from the boat and was pronounced dead on the scene; two of his passengers were injured, according to WBTV.
Authorities are unsure if Laudenslager was DUI at the time of the crash, but said his passengers appeared to be intoxicated and told police on the scene everyone on the boat had been drinking. Laudenslager’s blood has been submitted for toxicology tests, WBTV reported.
Based in data from the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, the Charlotte News and Observer reports that in 2014 there were 130 boating accidents on Lake Norman. Of those accidents, 23 were fatal and over a hundred resulted in injuries. So many people oblivious to the fact that an accident in a boat is just as dangerous as one on the road.
