Tulsa, OK- The Oklahoma Department of Transportation reported that one of their employees was killed this week in a work zone accident on Highway 20 near Jay, according to multiple reports.
Grand Lake News reports that the accident, which involved occurred on Wednesday, May 18, around 9:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes. Reports state that a motorist in a passenger car struck an
ODOT van parked on the side of the highway.
After hitting the van, which was parked partly on the road, the passenger car then hit an ODOT truck that was parked on the shoulder. Attached to the rear of the truck was a wood chipper which was in use when the accident occurred.
The person using the wood chipper suffered significant injuries which caused his death approximately one hour after the collision. KFOR.com reports that the deceased man was supervising a brush removal project.
Oklahoma State Trooper Ruben Hernandez told the Grand Lake News that the cause of the accident was inattention or distraction on behalf of the passenger car driver. Police did not say if the motorist will be charged for the collision.
