Police believe that speed was a factor in a weekend motorcycle accident that took the life of a New Orleans firefighter. NOLA.com reports that 25 year-old Corey Smith was traveling on Louisiana 39 around 4:00 p.m. when was involved in a single-vehicle accident.
Police say that Smith was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control in a curve and crossed over into the opposite lane. Smith’s motorcycle then ran off the road, slammed into metal sign and then into a culvert, NOLA.com reports.
Smith was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, but didn’t survive his injuries, according to NOLA.com.
