Traffic Accident InjuryPhiladelphia, PA- A Philadelphia man was killed early Tuesday morning after being struck by a white tour bus which fled from the scene.
Philly.com reports that 46-year-old Joseph Heard was a third of the way across the street when he was struck by the bus that had just taken a left turn. After being struck, Heard was dragged for 50 feet before the bus left then scene of the accident.
Witnesses rushed to aide Heard before emergency crews arrived and rushed him to the hospital. Heard eventually succumbed to his injuries.
Heard’s family said he was on his on his way to a kidney dialysis appointment when the crash occurred.
Because the accident occurred in front of the police station, there is surveillance footage of the collision. That allowed police to identify the bus driver who works for a tour bus company.
According to CBS Philly, the bus driver told police he didn’t see Heard in the road and didn’t realize he hit anyone. The TV station said the driver was remorseful about Howard’s death.
Police said they will examine the bus driver’s cell phone to determine if he was using his cell phone at the time of the collision.
Philly.com reports that the tour bus company, Yep Tours out of Chinatown, have over two dozen unsafe violations on their record and has been cited for one accident.
