Bakersfield, CA- Thirty thousand cars with defective airbags have already been recalled and it looks like the problem is just getting worse now that Nissan has issued a recall for thousands of more vehicles. That means more motorists face potential harm.
On Monday, Nissan ordered the recall of an additional 50,000 autos with Takata airbags which have been known to explode and spray shrapnel into motorists’ faces.
This latest figure is on top of the 11 million vehicles that were previously recalled from a range American and Japanese automakers.
Some of the recalled vehicles have been repaired according documents Takata submitted to the NHTSA, the Business Insider reported. But Takata is facing a potential inquiry from the federal agency which, depending on the outcome, could lead to fines for the company.
People view airbags as safety equipment meant to save their lives or prevent injury, not cause harm, but so far two deaths caused by theses defective airbags have been confirmed by Honda. USA Today reported there are two other unconfirmed deaths tied to the defective airbags.
