San Diego, CA-More traffic and more intoxicated drivers on the roads over the long holiday weekend led to numerous traffic accidents throughout California. In the San Diego-area, two separate accidents left two women suffering serious injuries, one of those accidents possibly involved a drunken driver.
On Nov. 27th, a woman suffered serious injuries after she lost control of her vehicle and slammed her car into tree in a suspected street race.
That accident occurred just after 3:00 a.m. Thursday morning in Chula Vista. According to reports, a woman was traveling along East H Street at a high rates of speed when she lost control, went into the centers median and wrapped her car around a trees. Police suspect the woman, who has not been identified, was racing with another motorist prior to the accident; her speed topped 80 mph San Diego 6 reported.
Police told San Diego six that woman struck the tree with such force that it almost wrapped completely around the tree. She had to be extricated from the mangled wreckage and was flown to the hospital suffering serious injuries, including two broken legs.
The driver of the other car involved in the alleged street race, a 23 year-old man, was also involved in the crash, but he suffered only minor injuries. He was arrested and is facing charges of street racing and suspicion of driving under the influence. He didn’t require hospitalization so he was taken to jail instead.
This accident is a prime example of the consequences of speeding and street racing. The two parties involved in this accident were fortunate to not have killed themselves or others. Another accident also occurring in Chula Vista over the weekend left a pedestrian suffering serious injuries.
According to U-T San Diego, a 40 year-old woman using a walker was struck by a pickup truck as she crossed G Street around 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26th. The injured woman made it across the eastbound lanes of G Street but was struck by an oncoming motorist as she entered the westbound lanes.
She suffered serious head trauma and was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
The motorist, a 30 year-old man, was making a left turn from Second Ave. onto G Street when he struck the woman. He stayed on the scene and told police he didn’t see the woman as she was crossing.
Police are still investigating the accident but don’t suspect that alcohol played a role in the accident.
