Personal injury claim
New York, NY- Actor Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson are named in a personal injury suit filed against their 25-year-old son Chet Atkins, in which the couple is accused of allowing their son to drive despite
The lawsuit names Chet, along with his parents, and alleges the rapper was intoxicated when he rear-ended the plaintiff in Los Angeles in February of 2015, the New York Daily News reports. The plaintiff, Terry Moogin, claims he suffered whiplash and a brain injury from hitting the dash and is seeking compensation for his injuries.
Police were not called to the scene of the collision, and there is no actual proof that Chet Hanks was intoxicated at the time of the accident. (Note: If you are involved in traffic accident, you need to call police and get an accident report; without one your claims can be much harder to prove.)
Moogan alleges in the suit that since Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are partly responsible for the accident because they knew their son was impaired but allowed him to drive their vehicle regardless.
“Despite knowing that Chester Hanks was a careless and reckless driver and a habitual user of drugs and alcohol, they negligently permitted Chester Hanks to operate their vehicle,” the lawsuit states, according to Entertainment Tonight.
Chet Hanks, whose stage names is Chet Haze, has admitted that he once had a serious coke habit but celebrated six months of sobriety in January of this year, according to the Daily Mail.
According to the New York Daily News, neither Hanks nor Wilson have issued a statement about the lawsuit.
