In 2016, more pedestrians were killed in accidents in San Diego than in any other year in the last two decades, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune. And just one day ago, yet another accident occurred that left a pedestrian who was crossing the street, dead. According to the Fox 5 San Diego, a man was walking across Rosecrans Street in a crosswalk from Voltaire Street to Farragut Road when he was struck by a vehicle. The vehicle dragged him a short distance and was then left in the roadway.
Moments later, another vehicle struck the man, who likely didn’t see him as it was 12:50 a.m. which is what ultimately killed him. Although paramedics did transport the pedestrian to a local hospital where they tried everything to save his life, he wasn’t able to pull through from the severe injuries he had sustained. The San Diego Police sergeant stated that drugs and alcohol were not a contributing factor to this accident.
With pedestrian accidents on the rise in San Diego, California Highway Patrol has identified over 200 “hot spots” which are areas that are known to be more hazardous for pedestrians. It was noted that many of the most perilous locations were on wide streets that weren’t too far from major highways.
