Roll-Over CrashHuntington, WV (5-18-15)- A roll-over crash in Cabell County that left a mother dead and seriously injured four people is being described as a freak accident.
The accident occurred on May 6th in Barker’s Ridge Road when the driver of a Jeep lost control and rolled-over several times before crashing into the front of a house.
Brittany Beckelhimer, who was driving, her 3-year-old daughter and a male passenger were ejected from the vehicle.
One of the surviving crash victims explained to WSAZ that Beckelheimer swerved to avoid a truck that was driving in her lane. She overcorrected and the Jeep went into a roll. The crash victim said it was just a “freak” accident and no drugs or alcohol were involved.
Beckelheimer was pronounced dead on the scene. The woman’s two daughters, ages 3 and 6, and two male passengers were seriously injured.
Police say that no one on the vehicle was wearing their seat belt.
Sadly, the driver of the truck that allegedly set this crash in motion left the scene of the accident.
The woman who lives in the home that was severely damaged told WSAZ that this was second time her house has been struck by a car.
In this case, the driver was trying to avoid a head-on collision, among the deadliest types of collisions a person can be involved. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that only 2 percent of accidents that occur in the U.S. each year are head-on collisions, yet these accidents account for 10 percent of all fatal crashes.
This accident shows how dramatically a car crash can alter the course of a person’s life in just the span and mere seconds. It left three children without a mother and the victims suffering serious and costly injuries. Many car accident victims who survive are faced with major injuries and, in the worst cases, can be left permanently disabled.
