What insurance covers damages after a car crashes into a Pittsburgh building?

Pennsylvania – June 16, 2021

A car crashed into the Biomat USA Plasma Center building in Pittsburgh over the weekend killing the driver and two others, and causing injury to many more at the site where the vehicle managed to travel about 200 feet into the building.  According to witnesses, the Hyundai Santa Fe was traveling a high rate of speed on Western Avenue before it made impact to the building.  One person was critically injured, and another person had minor injuries. Many others were evaluated by EMS on the scene. A paramedic and two firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation.  The charred vehicle was removed and towed away and the building was patched.  The Pittsburgh police are investigating the accident.  After a single vehicle car crash resulting in multiple injuries and death, it is best for victims to speak to an  experienced accident attorney who can guide their actions toward damage recovery.

Accident harms.

Car accidents are often the result of the action, or inaction of another, and a victim may recover compensation if fault and/or liability is proven. Accident reports, witness testimony and medical reports are important documentation for a personal injury attorney to prove negligence after a car accident in Pennsylvania.  A personal injury attorney can assist with damage assessment and valuation that  may include:

  • Medical bills and treatment,
  • Lost wages compensation,
  • Compensation for pain and suffering,
  • Punitive damages based on individual case.

Legal counsel is instrumental in claims processing with the insurer to cover immediate expenses relevant to medical treatment resulting from accident injury.  Further efforts toward damage compensation may be initiated in court, or through further insurance settlements.

Insurance.

An accident attorney can explain Pennsylvania laws regarding the  “modified comparative negligence” rule, when assessing damage costs and fault to a person and  the amount of compensation will be reduced by an amount that is equal to each driver’s percentage of fault. The state also has a “no-fault” component where victims can access payment from their own insurance companies to cover certain expenses for immediate accident-related costs.

Since the accident occurred on a commercial property, commercial property insurance may have some bearing on payment for losses related to other physical destruction, since many policies protect the property and its contents. It is also common for these policies to cover a loss of income, or higher business expenses that occur because of the damage.

An experienced accident attorney  can answer most victim’s questions on the necessity of legal action toward financial recovery and act as an intermediary between insurance companies and victims.

Hire legal counsel.

Victims who have suffered catastrophic loss should contact an accident attorney in the Pittsburgh area to assist with the determination of  “fault” and move forward toward comprehensive settlement, or court awards to address multiple victim losses after a single-vehicle accident crashing into a building structure in Pittsburgh.  An experienced accident lawyer at Scanlon & Wojton will fight for an accident victim’s rights by building a case utilizing state and federal accident laws, identifying parties to an insurance, or legal action, and valuating damages with the help of financial and accident reconstruction experts.
