60 Minutes still dominates as a top news show in the country. It has been running for decades and its three segment schedule every week is brilliant. One of the reasons for this success is outstanding reports such as Bob Simon. But sad to say, Bob Simon, 73, is no longer with us because of a car crash.
A True Talent
Simon was in a limo when the driver lost control while moving down the West Side Highway. This Lincoln Town Car in which Simon was in smashed into a Mercedes-Benz, which transitioned across the pavement into a pedestrian structural expansion not that far away from West 30th Street around 7 pm. This is from law enforcement officials who arrived on the scene shortly thereafter and now accident lawyers are diving head first into this case.
Twenty three year old Zachery Miller, who was the driver of the Mercedes, told people around him that the other car was not driving straight before the collision occurred. Something happened in that Lincoln Town Car to cause this wreck.
Millar said “He swerved into me,” who is from New Rochelle. “He hit me and he looked like he lost control of the car.” Simon was shot over to Roosevelt Hospital which is in Midtown where he succumbed to his injuries.
Town Car was Destroyed
Simon had to be extracted from the rear of the car. This collision was atrocious; you do not need a marvelous accident attorney to tell anyone this. Emergency personnel had to pry open the roof to gain access to Simon. Simon, who is from the Bronx, was badly beat up with stomach and head injuries and he was also unresponsive to rescuers.
Simon’s driver, Reshad Abdul Fedahi, may have had a heart attack, which caused him to lose control of his car when the car was fully in motion. Fedahi had a broken right arm, both legs were broken, but he did test negative for alcohol according to police officers on the scene. It was and is not clear if Fedahi had this heart attack when he was driving or his condition hit him after the wreck.
Simon’s Driver had a Long List of Driving Infractions
The town car is owned by Travez Transportation Inc. which is out of Long Island City. Fedahi had two moving strikes against him and nine driving suspensions in his file. That is extensive. Someone probably needs to explain that. Simon probably would have liked to known that before he entered this vehicle. The Mercedes and the Lincoln were both insured.
Fedahi was a full time driver, perhaps it is normal for someone to drive this often in this party of the country to have this many hits on his record. New York is struggling for revenue, perhaps handing out futile driving tickets is another source of revenue for this city. This aspect has yet to be explained. Fedahi’s employer is probably diving into the records right now.
Fedahi was also rushed over to the Roosevelt and medical personnel put him in stable condition. He has plenty of questions to answer and there will be a line of people trying to gain access to him, including hard working accident attorneys. Fedahi was taking Simon to a seminar and lived on the Upper West Side. Simon, started out with the highly acclaimed show 60 Minutes in 1996.
Simon leaves one daughter, who is a producer on the show.
